The fuels of the future

In order to decarbonize our economies, we need a fuel solution that is scalable for transportation/mobility purposes, is cost-competitive, is not reliant on large amounts of electric energy and has the potential of being fully carbon neutral.

Can we find answers in the following energy carriers/fuels: Methanol, Metal Fuels, Ammonia, Hydrogen.

If we consider the beforementioned fuels as a possibility, we must also look at the total value chain in order to fully implement these energy carriers successfully. The production & mobility industry still have questions regarding their need for green energy.

Topics

Methanol: Pathway to a green society
Metal Fuels: A new renewable energy
Ammonia: The long-haul solution

To be announced

In order to decarbonize our economies, we need a fuel solution that is scalable for transportation/mobility purposes, is cost-competitive, is not reliant on large amounts of electric energy and has the potential of being fully carbon neutral. Can the answer be found in renewable methanol?

  • Matthïas Ölafsson, Chief Representative Europe, Methanol Institute
  • Maickel Uijtewaal, General Manager, Stolt-Nielsen

By developing a new type of combustion technology of metal power, researchers have found a promising new energy carrier for the long term. The tremendously high energy density of metal fuels, might just disrupt the renewable energy market. But will it be scalable and meet future demand?

  • Wietse van den Bogaard, Head of Brewing, Royal Swinkels Family Brewers
  • Aris Blankenspoor, Managing Director, Uniper Technologies
  • Philip de Goey, Full Professor of Combustion Technology, TU Eindhoven

14.15 Break & Networking

With a higher liquid energy density than hydrogen, ammonia seems to be a reliable alternative for transportation. Liquid ammonia is significantly easier to produce and transport as fuel. Can these advantages create a cost-competitive market for the transportation industry?

  • Michael Schlaug, Managing Director, Yara Sluiskil

Joan Hoexum, Vitality Solutions

Liquid fuels are being strangled by various regulatory decisions. Advanced biofuels are however strongly promoted within the revised EU Renewable Energy Directive. What opportunities and what outlook for advanced biofuels produced from wastes & residues? What are key challenges for the industry and what regulatory framework is needed to boost investments?

  • Marko Janhunen, Public Affairs Director, UPM and Chair, Advanced Biofuels Coalition

17.00 Closing remarks & Networking drinks
